The showers are over, but the baby continues to get items…  I am absolutely floored  on how generous my friends are.  Thank you! Thank you!  Thank you!

So here is another item we received after the two showers (actually, it came via FedEx today!):

Isn’t that quilt gorgeous!?  My friend Esther made it!!!!  She couldn’t join us for shower #2, but she took her time and made this for me baby.  It really means a lot to me.

A little history of how Esther and I had become friends – I was a poor sophomore, living off campus, trying to figure out how to work and made enough money to pay my $300/mo rent and everything else that comes with living, without a car.  So one of the things I did was work study.  Now, you don’t always get to pick where you want to work study, but I got lucky that year and was placed for my #1 choice.  Granted, I had no idea what I would be doing, but I figure at least I get to work in the engineering building, where most of my classes are held.

I remember my first day – I walked into the little office, and Esther was facing her computer, which was away from the door.  I was a bit intimidated, not knowing what to expect.  Esther set me up on what I need to do, and our friendship started on that day.

Esther is sassy and funny.  She is also sarcastic and have lots of common sense.  And did I mention she makes some mean sauce and meatballs?  When I graduated from RPI, she offered to teach me how to make the sauce and meatballs, from scratch, and that recipe is permanently glued to my fridge, so I can always reference it when I needed it.

Thank you Esther, for being a great friend, and for the beautiful quilt for this baby.

On a completely different note, but still related to baby, I went to Babies R Us this past week for one of their workshop on breastfeeding.  Now, I’m not expecting much.  The workshop was sponsored by Medela, which I thought would be good if a rep was there so I can ask questions on the different breastpumps.  Well, it was just a video.  Yup.  Run by a girl who looks like in her early twenties that doesn’t know anything about breastfeedining or pumping.  All she did was put the video on, gave us a coupon to use for the day, and promoted BRU.  I guess I was still expecting too much.

After the video, I decided to shop around since I had some gift cards and there were still some items we needed for the baby.  After being in there THREE HOURS – yes, you read that right, three freaking hours…  the place is freaking huge and there are so much stuff!  I was completely overwhelmed and I read slow, so that didn’t help…  I came home with these:

The car stuff that I completely forgot we need!!!  And to make the coupon works, I picked up two sets of the organic mittens so the baby don’t chew/scratch him/her-self.  I don’t think I’ll be going there all by myself anymore…  Just saying.

Oh, and I also got this in the mail:

I had entered a contest on Sew, Mama, Sew! last month and won this book.  The unique thing about this book is that all the items identified in this book look liked they are sewn into the book.  It’s really cute!

Well, it’s getting late…  Time to research on diapers…  Yes, we need those too!  And we are going to the Big E tomorrow!  YAY!  We didn’t get to go last year because of the wedding and honeymoon.  Not gonna miss it this year!

Oh, and I should probably do a post on all the things I had purchased along the way for the baby, huh?  That’s a post for another day then.

This past Saturday, I had my second shower, hosted by my very good friend Mel.  Mel drove down from Albany Friday night, and we spent some time making chocolate cover pretzels and cute ducky cupcakes for the festivity.

We also decorate the place a bit, but unfortunately my prego brain isn’t all that together so I didn’t take any pictures!  She got a cute big banner that says “Baby Shower” and baloons for the outside and some more baloons and little banners for the inside.

Saturday morning, David’s mom came to help us clean up the house a bit – even David helped cleaning by vacuuming all the dog fur (or maybe I should say dog tumble-fur)!!!!

The shower was potluck style and everyone brought something to share.  There were shortbread (from HedwigBC), veggie pizza (from BackstageKnits), fruit salad (from Claire), fruit platter (from WifeMomKnitter), veggie platter (from Jessie), cheesecake (from Karen), cherry-raspberry pah (from CostumeChick), chocolate bundt cake (from Anphoe), rice crispy treats (from leopardgirl), blueberry oatmeal cookies (from NutmegKnitter) and this apple-snicker candy bar-cool whip salad thing (from PeacefulKnitter).  Yes, you read that right, that apple-snicker candy bar-cool whip salad thing…  it may not sound all that appealing to you, but let me tell ya, it was amazing!  If you want to try it, you’ll have to ask PeacefulKnitter for the recipe!

2009.09.12 Baby Shower

As you can see, we were not the only ones having a good time!  The two girls that came also did!  They found a new hiding place and had a great time themselves!  Oh yeah, see my new sewing table?  Yup, they are hiding underneath it.    Oh, and Scott was there to hang out with David, so David doesn’t feel so alone on the whole “I’m the only guy in this house!”  Although I think he can probably handle it if Scott didn’t show though. :)

Of course, here are some close up of the goodies:

See that swing?  It’s actually a swing and a bouncer!  I think it’s the only one in the market right now that does both!  All the other ones we saw are either a bouncer or a swing, not both!  We wanted to see what it looks like we opened the box immediately, but there were so many different pieces, so we gave up on the idea.  David assembled it on Sunday and tried it out.  It is pretty awesome.  It actually has a space to let you plug in a MP3 player so you can play any music you want to the baby!!!

And, needless to say, having many knitting friends has it’s perks – hand knits!!!!  Did I tell you how much I love to receive hand made goodies!?  (Who doesn’t?!)  Again, this baby is going to be the best dressed baby on the block!  And not just items to wear, but also accessaries!!!!  Even the bottles got some hand knitted cozies!

Yes, we are lucky, indeed.  Thank you everyone, for all the useful, beautiful gifts you showered us.  And thank you Mel for hosting this awesome shower/party!!! :)

I, jennsquared, am a lucky girl.

Just want to put it out there.

I have lots of friends and family.  They are kind, generous, and talented.  And I have pictures to prove it to you.

On Thusday,  Liz R, who sits behind me at Sikorsky, made me a honey pound cake to celebrate the baby.  She couldn’t come to the shower the next day, so she wanted to do something for me.

Let me tell ya, it was YUMMY!  And she also gave me this:

For someone who didn’t check out my registry, she was RIGHT ON!  :)  I actually had registered the teether!

Another lady, Cindy, couldn’t come either, so she had left these on my desk before she left for the day:

Everything coordinates!  Man, my baby is going to dress better than I am!

On Friday September 4th, my co-worker/friend Liz M. threw me a shower at Betucci’s.  She managed to coordinate with Louise from Schick (where I used to work) and invited my friends from both Sikorsky and Schick to the shower.

It was very sweet of Liz, especially she’s getting married this coming weekend!!!  Thanks girl for such a great success on the shower!  Everyone had a good time!

2009.09.04 Baby Shower

See, didn’t I say I was a lucky girl!?  Well, maybe I should say our baby is one lucky baby!  Look at all the stuff!!!!  And all the cute clothes!!!!  Well, can’t see well enough?  Here are some close up!

Click on each picture to enbiggen!

Words can’t express how grateful I am to have so many wonderful friends.  And the beautiful and useful gifts I recevied will be well used and treasured.

AND!  That’s not it!  I didn’t just have one shower.  I had two!!!!  But due to bad lighting, I didn’t get to take pictures of all the items I/baby got.  So we’ll leave that post for tomorrow.  :)  So stay tuned!!!
