Archives for the month of: March, 2009

Wow…  It’s been a little while, huh?  I went from writing a post everyday to not blogging at all!  Oh boy.  And it’s not like I got nothing to say either!!!

Instead of dumping all that happened in one post, I’ll break it up to bits and pieces.  And why not start with a fun date with my SnB girls?

CostumeChick works at a theater and had told us awhile ago a show they are putting on – Bad Dates.  (And here is a review from NYT from when it’s an off Broadway show, although the main character isn’t played by Julie White)  With the title sounding so funny, I asked her to elaborate a bit and decided that it would be a completely fun show to see with the girls.

Archiknist, Anphoe, CostumeChick, HedwigBC, WifeMomKnitter, YankeeL and I met up after work Friday at Greek Olive for some delicious dinner before the show.  I ordered the appertizer platter, which included hummus with pita bread, Greek olives, roasted peppers, stuffed grape leaves and falafel!  YUM.  It was so good.  Archiknist and WifeMomKnitter actually ordered the Greek Olive Wrap, which is a falafel wrap and that looked amazing too!  I wanted to go back already!  (mouth watering just thinking about it!)

We then head into the show after some awesome food.  This is when CostumeChick parted us and went to the Costume Shop to work on the next show, while we enjoyed an awesome “chick flick” play.

The play is set in Haley’s apartment in NYC, where she tells us her story of series bad dates after not being in the dateing scene for many years.  She started off by telling us the shoes she’s got and the stories behind each pair.  We learned quickly she has a teenage daughter and a brother, who she talks on the phone quite a bit.

I don’t want to spoil it if you want to see it.  It is definitely a fun play and I highly recommend it!

Tomorrow, I’ll be talking about a dish I made with the Tajine Project.  (Scroll down to the second post to see the details!) Stay tuned!

Measureing…  Measureing… All Done!

If you own a Wii Fit, you would know exactly what I’m talking about.

There have been some other things happening in the house that prevented us playing the fit.  Today is our second day and I decided that I want to try for 30 mins.  The first time I played, my fit age was 34, which is kinda sad since my real age is 29, but today, it measures the same! :)  YAY!

I started with all the yoga poses, then move into the strength training.  According to the fit, I’m a Yoga Trainer and a Body Builder!  HA!  By the end of all the strength training exercises, my legs were like jello!  But I couldn’t not do some fun games, so I went to my favorite – Ski Jump.  My best single jump was 180m!!!  Although I’m still behind David on overall jumps.  He’s got 335m!!!

I also uncover a new balance game, which is my Mii in a bubble traveling down water.  Can’t hit the sides of the shore as that terminates the game.  It was fun, but I still haven’t successfully complete the whole trip.

I’m gonna try to play a bit for each day.

Do you have a Wii Fit?  What games have you uncovered that you are having fun with?

In Chinese, we call our parternal grandmother “Nai Nai”.

Well, my Nai Nai has a lot of traditional recipes that I love, but don’t know how to make.  But there is one that my brother learned from her, then taught me when he moved in with me.

See that pork chop!?  Crispy on the outside, tendor and juicy on the inside.

Nai Nai’s Fried Pork Chop

  • Pork chop, bone in or bone out, up to you
  • Some Sweet Potato Starch, Thick powder (there is a thin kind too)
  • Some Soy Sauce
  • Vegetable Oil, Canola Oil or Peanut Oil for pan frying

Take the pork chop and leave it on the counter for a little while so it’s not completely cold when you fry it.

Heat the oil in a pan until hot, but not smoking.

While waiting for the oil to be hot, take the pork chop and soak them in the soy sauce.  About a minute on each side to ensure it actually get into the pork chop.  If not all of them fit in the container where you put the soy sauce, then do them in batches.

After the soy sauce dredge, coat them evenly with the sweet potato starch.  You can season the starch with ground pepper or paprika, but I wouldn’t put any salt, since the soy sauce should give you enough saltiness.

Pan fry the chops until done.  Depending on the thickness of your chop, you may have to adjust the amount of time frying.

My brother and I love eating the chops with white rice and a side of veggie.  But you can certainly eat it with mashed potatoes or whatever you desire.

If you ever try this recipe, please let me know how you like it!

PS.  You can purchase the sweet potato starch from any Chinese Grocer near you.
