Archives for the month of: October, 2007

I made progress in two ways today in knitting:

1. I knitted total of 20 rows for Hemlock Ring.

2. My beads arrived for Secret of the Stole.

Only the crystals are for the stole. The leave pendent is MAYBE for my wedding, and I got two charms to make stitch markers for my Christmas Swap.

Yeah… Hint 2 is arriving in midnight tonight… ::sigh:: I’m just never gonna catch up for any KAL I joined.

And before I leave you tonight, I just want to give a shout out to my Secret Santa – We’ve never met and we lived 8 hours flight times away, but I feel like I already know her, even though I don’t really since I don’t know her name yet. She is really cool and I know this is gonna be a fun swap. I can’t wait to find out her name, and maybe meet her in person in 2009, when we go on our honeymoon in Europe :) .

So after much of joining (KALs), I am finally starting the Hemlock Ring Blanket today at SnB. I decided to use the sweater skein in varigated red and pink yarn from Farmhouse Yarns – I got it from my first ever sale event there. It is a very pretty color, but I can’t tell you what it is. Also, I don’t see the sweater skeins on her website so I can’t even tell you which yarn it is. So far it is knitting up beautifully and the yarn is very easy to work with.

I am on row 7, so there really isn’t anything to show yet… Maybe tomorrow…

I am sure I am super behind on the holiday knitting compare to most of the knitters out there… But I just couldn’t start thinking of Christmas in 80+ degree weather in October! But if as on queue, the temperature dropped to around 60s today and the Holiday issue of VogueKnitting arrived in my mailbox today. (They are reconstructing their site so I won’t bother to link to it since you can’t even go in). It has some very nice pattern in it that I really liked. Also, Interweave Knits holiday issue is coming out on the news stand soon – this is what I don’t get, why is it a separate issue, not part of the subscription? I mean, couldn’t I just add a little more on my subscription? I’m too lazy to go out to buy these magazines and that’s why I subscript them in teh first place!!! I guess it’s just another way to make money… Oh so be it, I got some BN gift card I can spend anyways.

I also received “Needled to Death” by Maggie Sefton today via PaperBackSwap.com – it is pretty awesome and you get books for free by exchanging books you no longer wish to hold on to it. Click on my sidebar to check it out. I heard mix review about the book, so I can’t wait for some time to check it out myself. Although, sometimes I wish it is a audio book so I can knit at the same time…

I’m really into knitting books and patterns lately. I borrowed Rebecca’s Rebecca patterns, but they are in German, however, they all came with translations. I’m planning on making one of the vests from it, maybe after I finished the Hemlock Ring Blanket for my mom…

So I bet get cracking then…

Finally finished! This one took me awhile because I was also busy doing MS3. So without further ado:

Dad’s Vest #2

Pattern – My own with sizing from Petrol, size small
Yarn Used – 6.5 skein of Reynolds Odyssey
Needles – Denise size 7 for ribs, size 8 for body
Gauge – 8 sts per inch
Knit – September 06, 2007 to October 08, 2007
Modifications – None

This is a very easy knit. I was too lazy to calculate all the numbers so I just used Petrol’s sizing. When I knitted Petrol, I used the medium sizing but my gauge is different than called for so it worked out smaller than it says. My dad is a little shorter than my brother so the vest should be okay length-wise.

So now that both FO are finished, I am able to cast on something else now. I think my next project would be the Hemlock Ring Blanket by Jared Flood. There is a KAL on this, click here if you are not on Ravelry, if you are, queue it here.

Speaking of KAL, I joined the Mystic Water KAL, thanks to CostumChick!! Yeah, I know, I have problems.

Switch gear to some wedding stuff – on the way to the gym, David stopped into Walgreens for a bottle of water, and he immediately called once he stepped in, “honey, turn the car off and come inside.” Okay… maybe he forgot money… I walked in, there they are, lots of autumn decorations for $0.99 and $1.99… We came home with these:

15 metal leaves candle holders for $1.99 each and 4 ceramic maple leave candle holders for $0.99 each! And some Apple Cider tealights

The reason we only got 4 of the ceramic ones is because they ran out. We went to 3 other Walgreens on and off the way home but no one had it… :( I’m so sad now. So if you see them in your local Walgreens, please let me know!

We liked it so much the last time we went, we decided to do it again! This time, we had two visitors with us:

Jonny and Flynn

Jonny and Flynn are from the UMass Lowell Ski Team. Flynn’s first name is Matt, but everyone calls him Flynn, so I do too :) . Jonny didn’t end up driving the car, but Flynn did.

The weather is actually much better this time – nice breeze with no humidity. The sun was in and out of the clouds which made it really nice too.

Both David and Flynn did pretty well, 26+ seconds for the track, not the best out there, but certainly not the worse.

Zoom zoom!

I’m not sure when the next one is (I think this might be the last race for the season!!!), but I know we will definitely be back.

While I was there, I worked on Dad’s vest #2, maybe I will be able to have a FO by tomorrow…

Anyone who knows me knows I can’t pass up a sale. So today after my training for Primerica, I went to Yarn Garden and met up with Anphoe there. The funny thing is, following me into the store immediately wasn’t Anphoe, but it was costumchick! Speaking costumchick, she was mean and “made” me join yet another KAL. Go check it out and sign up!!

Anyways, so Yarn Garden had everything 40% off! EVERYTHING! When Denise hold a sale, she has a real sale! Here is what I got from the few hours of shopping:

A Gathering of Lace by Meg Swason, Knitting on the Edge by Nicky Epstein, Noni Lattice Bag pattern and Sustermann Step (mit Aloe Vera und Jojoba Öl – with Aloe Vera and Jojoba Oil)

I also got my friends some sock yarns and Christmas secret pal a pattern and some yarn and accessory, but I don’t want to show it, in case they read my blog (in fact, I know they do). I’ll reveal once the package is sent.

Afterwards, Anphoe and I went to Panera Bread to have some lunch and wind the lace yarn we got awhile ago. I actually bought a digital scale at LnT for pretty cheap for this purpose as well:

All the yarn!!

See the scale?

Anphoe and I had loads of fun! Now only if both of us knew that we were gonna join the Mystic Waters KAL, we would have also gotten some blue lace… Blue lace, anyone? anyone? Com’on costumechick!

Being as scientific as I am, I don’t usually catch any mistakes on CSI, however today, I did.

So anyone who knits or likes fiber as much as I do know that, angora rabbit produces angora fur, and angora goat produces mohair. Both have very soft hand and very brushed look to it.

Tonight, David and I were just watching an old episode of CSI that I’ve never seen before (it’s rare, but it happens) while I was winding some yarn, Catherine and Nick found some “angora” on the boy’s body. Catherine proceeded to say that the angora fiber came from angora goat. Ding ding ding – alarm went off and immediately I said, “She’s wrong!! She’s Wrong!! Angora fiber comes from angora bunny, not angora goat! Angora goat produces mohair!!!”

Ok, I am a dork…

Yes, Ravelry is a black hole. It sucks the day light, time, and energy outta you like there is no tomorrow – in a very cool and fun way! I’ve been adding my stash and projects whenever I can. Although none of them have pictures – because I am AGAINST Flickr. I am a Picasa user and I love it, and here is why:

1. Picasa is free. Flickr is also free, to a point. As long as you only use 3 folders, it is free. Now tell me, do you only have three folders for all pictures?
2. Picasa loads automatically whenever I open it. Once you set up the link in the beginning, it will look for new pictures from that folder and load it into the software. It organizes it in folder style so whatever you got in your hard drive, it is like that over there. Flickr – you gotta drag into it, not automatic.

So I am anti-flickr, although I do have an account because of SoS 2007, but I didn’t end up using it anyways, so I wish I had never joined.

So until Ravelry comes out a way to load pictures via Picasa, I might be just that ONE pictureless Raveler.

I skipped SnB today… I KNOW I KNOW! Wednesday is my favorite day because of it, but I had an appointment today after work with Jess, who is the wife of one of my coworkers. She used to own invitation making business and I really want to make my own, so I set it up with her to see what she has. She was very friendly and super cool! We went through few boxes of papers, catalogs, envelopes, swatches, etc. With her generosity, I came home with these:

All the paper and catalogs

For those of you who don’t do any scrapbooking or card making, each catalog cost about $10, some cost $20. So for Jess to give me all the stuff, it is super nice of her.

And I forgot to show off the new books I bought from Amazon that showed up last night (too excited about Ravelry):

Inspired Cable Knits and One-Skein Wonders

I saw couple of the sweaters I really like from the Inspired Cable Knits and I ordered One-Skein Wonders to replace Emily’s… She was so nice to lend me her copy, but I accidentally spilled ice tea on it…

Back on Ravelry I go…

::Dance around in the office:: ::pretend I am screaming but soundless so I don’t distract my coworkers:: ::Dance around in the office some more::

Yup. That was me!

For what? You asked. RAVELRY!!!!

I am now an official Raveler! Feel free to friend me.
