Archives for the month of: July, 2007

So I finally made some progress on my socks… Yes, I admit, I am such a bad SoS member! So without further ado:

Falling Leaves with Heels!!!

I since made a little more progress, but not enough to take another picture. The most important thing is that I now have TWO heels :)

And I’ve spotted this yesterday coming home from SnB in our garden:

Beautiful Butterfly!

I haven’t seen butterfly this big in real life in the US. Isn’t it beautiful?

Found you!
You signed up on Today
You are #21089 on the list.
13884 people are ahead of you in line.
43 people are behind you in line.
33% of the list has been invited so far

I joined Ravelry this morning after reading all my lovely readers’ comments.

And then I found this and decided that it’s for me since I am such a book lover (books suck me into a different world!)

Anything else I’m missing out on???

Okay. So I’ve been thinking about this whole Ravelry thing. A lot of my SnB friends had joined and either had received their invites or on the waiting list. There are currently 17000+ people joined and about 1/3 had received the invitations.

This thing looks pretty cool – you can enter your stash, WIPs and FOs, and you can search FOs from others so you can see what other’s look like. You can blog and have threads also about subjects – overall, it is very interesting. You would think I joined at once, but I have not. With so many people joined and on the waiting list, I am not sure if I should join or not. It is still on the beta version.

So my question to you, my dear readers, should I join, or should I not???

I stayed up till 4am this morning to finish the book and I am still emotional about the whole story. Rowling is definitely a excellent writer and I wish the Harry Potter story would have never end.

The twist and turn of this book is incredible. I had guessed right about Snape and which side he was in, but I had not expected Snape’s intentions and the ending of the whole story. I won’t ruined it for anyone who hasn’t read it, but if you are behind, you should get right on it, because it is worth it.

Even David said he enjoyed the whole series!!!! (and I got him to start reading it last year!!!)

Now, I can peacefully go back to knitting.

I got home today from my training for Primerica and found this in the mailbox:

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows!!!

I was a bit worried because I ordered it so long ago that the address it sent to was my old address!!! But my post office/mail-person ROCKS! I am going to go open it and start the story now. I will see you all when I am done with the book.

Happy Reading!

I am FINALLY done with Clue 1 of MS3:

It finally looks like everyone else’s Clue 1

I really enjoyed this meme, because it lets me set my own goal for my knitting! I shall keep this updated periodically. As for tagging, I suppose I’ll tag Sunflowerfairy, Archiknist, Sneaksleep and Beth. Now, I leave you with this:

Vanilla sleeping but guarding the house!

WARNING: If you have not yet seen the movie, please DO NOT continue to read this post until you do so. This WILL spoil the movie.

If you are expecting a lengthy 3-hour movie like the previous movies, you will be absolutely disappointed. It has all the essential from the book, but not everything. The movie started off with Harry facing the dementors in the muggle world and got expelled from Hogwarts, then was transported to Sirius’s house until the trial. The movie did not elaborate on Percy, who had since graduated since the 4th book and started working for the Ministry of Magic, and distant himself from his family because of his belief in his own career. Tonks, who has the purple hair, suppose to be in love with Lupin the werewolf, and die in the book, but that was not in the movie either. Sirius, however, did die like the book described. Also in the movie, it really showed Ginny had become a very strong witch, although maybe still immature, but strong, in numerous places of the movie.

Overall, I think the movie represents the 5th book, however, I wish it had showed more characters. David and I went to the IMAX 3D version of this movie and had awesome seats for it. Although only 20 minutes of it was 3D, but it was still worth it – it was during the time when they were in the Ministry to retrieve the prophecy. Needless to say, the 3D had a very cool effect on all the actions.

This past week, I had made David sit with me and watched all the previous Harry Potter movies so I can remember what happened and continue with the 5th one. I will be reading the 6th book this up coming week so I can continue the reading to the 7th and hopefully have a happy ending. I am excited to finally get to book 7 and I can’t wait for next Saturday. All my knitting projects will have to wait!

Off me go now!

Edit: Apparently, I got the two books confused!!! Marla kindly pointed that Tonk didn’t die in Book 5 and plays an important character in Book 6. David is currently on Page 88 and that’s a bout an hour of reading… I guess I’ll work on MS3 until he is done then…

Back in June, my local SnB group sent out the Mystery Stole 3 (MS3) description and I immediately thought – how clever! But I didn’t join right away. I never really knitted lace before and though this might be a tough project to take on as a first time lace project (It stated on the front page of MS3 that you shouldn’t do this project as the first lace project!!!) But when I went to the group the following day, Archknist and Sunflowerfairy already joined and twisted my arm (not really, all they said were – you should do it!!!) and I joined that night.

After I joined, I was reading all the posts (there are many and good thing I have it as daily digest, otherwise my inbox would be exploded everyday I come home from work!) trying to figure out what yarn and what beads to use. I had Skacel Merino Lace in my stash, which I bought it to make MoonDance Stole for my wedding. I ordered the sample card from Colourmart because I heard many good things about their cashmere. But at the end, David convinced me to use my stash. Then onto the needles – I swatched with Crystal Palace Bamboo size 3 first. I brought the blocked swatch to SnB to show Archknist and Sunflowerfairy, and both of them said I could probably go down one size needle since the swatch was kinda holey.

Size 3 swatch

So I ordered Knitpick Circulars in size 2 (2.75mm and 3mm) to try out, but knowing that I wouldn’t get them on time, I borrowed one from Anphoe, who also joined MS3. I swatched it on the drive up to the 1000 Islands. Not having my blocking foam, I had to improvise:

I had tape!

In the mean time, my final selection of beads and crochet hooks arrived:

Beads from Artbeads.com and crochet hooks from Van Sciver Bobbin Lace

There were many people in MS3 group saying don’t use the Swarovski Crystals because they are too sharp and will cut through the yarn. I personally don’t see how it’s going to happened so I went against what they said and ordered some anyways.

My final selection ended up to be the crystal. I just couldn’t resist the sparkles!!!!

I am finished with Chart A and currently knitting Chart B. Although Clue 2 (Chart C) already came out, but I just don’t have as much of time as others to knit all the time. I am going to try to catch up this weekend though since I don’t really like to be behind too much. Especially with Harry Potter coming next weekend, catching up will be tough!

Up to row 60!!

Well, off I go to SnB… MS3 will be my project tonight!

I have WAAAAY too many things to blog about, but not enough time, so I’ll just post the quick update on Summer of Socks.

While I was at 1000 islands vacationing and planning my wedding, I had some down time to start my first pair of socks for Summer of Socks 2007. I decided that the first pair would be Falling Leaves, using Reynold Soft Sea Wool in Dark Green.

Instead of doing the toe up specified in the pattern with the crochet cast on, I used the Magic Cast-On by Judy Becker. I modified the size of the socks using the Universal toe-up formula. Unfortunately my feet are way too small for standard size socks pattern hence I needed to learn toe up so I can make my own. On top of using the two new techniques, I also made the socks with two circular needles, and both socks at once! Not bad for a new sock knitter, eh? :)
